Long Tail Keywords increase Search Engine Traffic
When applied to websites, it simply means that most websites are likely to receive most of their search engine visitors through a variety of low-volume search queries instead of a handful of major keywords.
Therefore focusing on developing the keywords which receive lower volumes of search traffic will lead to an increase in the overall amount of visitors from search engines to your website.
What are Long Tail Keywords?
Long tail keywords are simply multi-phrase search queries which visitors use on search engines to arrive at your website. These long tail keywords are much more targeted than the general or main keyword topic and they literally embody a visitor’s need for specific information.
Here is an example. ‘Cars‘ is the general keyword topic and long tail keywords within this niche includes terms such as the following:
* cars in india
* new cars in india
* used cars in india
* upcoming cars in india
* car dealers in india
These Long Tail Keywords are what people exactly search for, therefore optimizing your site and creating content to match these search queries will allow you to attract visitors who search for information via these and similar search terms.
Benefits of Long Tail keywords
1) Higher Conversions : Visitors reaching via these search phrases might be more likely to be converted. By targeting these long tail keywords, you are effectively targeting a market of potential buyers.
2) Easier to rank : It is much easier to make your website rank well on search engines for long tail keywords because of the generally weaker competition.
3) More Visitors to your website : Aiming long tail keywords will progressively result in more search engine traffic since you have good number of pages indexed and ranking for specific keywords related to your website. This means increased visibility and therefore a good amount of search engine traffic.
4) Higher Monetization Potential : Search Engine visitors are very important since they are targeted individuals who are seeking specific information and hence are more likely to click on contextual ads or subscribe to your site newsletter or blog feed. This increases your audience and allows you greater monetization potential in the long run through product sales or the use of third-party ad networks.

Aside from good keywords it will help to have a catchy heading or title of your site.
Long tail keywords work more...how so? If i am promoting "blue big boxes" than where i will stand for "blue" , "big" and "boxes" separately. I think nowhere so somewhat it will reduce my website visibility for more popular keywords. But still for something targeted ,long tail keywords are good....but with some popular keyword support.
I do not agree in using long keyword linking, the one reason is that Google and other Search Engines ignore in, the, or, and, an, etc kind of words.
The best way is to keep your Keywords simple and Use them with effective keyword linking
